Patch Backings 101

The unsung heroes of your gear.

Let’s be honest—your patch design might be fire, but if it won’t stick, it won’t stick around.

The backing you choose determines where your patch goes and how long it lasts. Whether you're slapping it on a flight suit, a bag, a jacket, or a hat—this guide breaks down the options so you can get it right the first time.

🔥 Iron-On Backing

Best for: Clothes, bags, flat surfaces
Avoid on: Silk, nylon, anything delicate

Why use it: Quick, easy, no sewing required. Just heat, press, and done.

🪡 Sew-On Backing

Best for: Denim, leather, tactical gear
Why use it: Maximum durability and that handcrafted vibe.

How it works:
Needle, thread, patience. Bonus points if you use a machine. Built to outlast whatever you throw at it.

⚡ Velcro Backing

Best for: Uniforms, hats, patch walls, anything swappable
Why use it: Swap it out, rip it off, slap on a new one. Over and over.

How it works:
One side goes on your gear, the other on your patch. Press 'em together and you're good to go.

🏷️ Adhesive Backing

Best for: One-time use, quick fixes, temporary flair
Why use it: It’s basically a patch-shaped sticker. No tools, no heat, no hassle.

How it works:
Peel off the backing, press it where you want it, and boom—you’re done.

Bottom Line

The backing makes the patch. Pick the right one, and your gear’s not just custom—it’s combat-ready.
